Neurodevelopmental disabilities is a sub-specialty of Pediatrics, first recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties in 1999. After completion of medical school, the pediatrician completes another three years of training and must pass an examination to be Board Certified in Pediatrics. A pediatrician specializing in neurodevelopmental disabilities completes an additional 24 months of training and treats children with developmental delays and chronic neurological conditions resulting in disability.
