[Posted 10/06/2006] FDA and the iPLEDGE program notified healthcare professionals and patients of an update to iPLEDGE, a risk management program to reduce the risk of fetal exposure to isotretinoin, that will eliminate one element of the program, the 23 day lock-out period for males and females of non-child bearing potential. This change does not affect female patients of child-bearing potential. ISOTRETINOIN treats severe acne that has not responded to other therapy such as antibiotics. This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Do not chew or suck on the capsules. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking except on your doctor's advice. A special MedGuide will be given to you by the pharmacist with each prescription and refill. Be sure to read this information carefully each time. Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed. Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once. NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
If you miss a dose, skip that dose. Do not take double or extra doses. If you take more than your prescribed dose, call your doctor or poison control center right away.
